Assuring Beneficiary and Family Centered Care

As a Medicare QIO, WVMI is responsible for reviewing the quality and necessity of care provided to Medicare patients in our state. Specifically, we:

  • Review appeals of certain provider notices of discharge or discontinuation of services
  • Review potential cases of patient “dumping” (EMTALA)
  • Implement quality improvement activities to address concerns identified in the course of medical record review

We also protect Medicare patients by reviewing quality complaints and applying what we learn to improve the way providers deliver health care.  Click on the links in the left hand menu of this page to learn more.
