An Ounce of Prevention. . .

A major goal of the US Department of Health and Human Services’ National Quality Strategy is better health for people and communities. One step toward achieving this goal is promoting the best possible prevention and treatment of the leading causes of mortality.

We are working with physicians and patients to improve immunizations, screenings and cardiovascular care. Specifically we are focused on:

  • Immunizations: Improving flu and pneumonia immunization rates
  • Cardiovascular disease: Improving appropriate low-dose aspirin therapy and cholesterol control in patients with ischemic vascular disease, blood pressure control in patients with hypertension, and tobacco cessation intervention among patients who smoke (screening and cessation counseling).
  • Million Hearts Campaign: Joining forces to become one in a million. Preventing 1 million heart attacks and strokes. Click here to learn more and join the movement.
  • Cancer Screenings: Improving colorectal cancer and breast cancer screening rates.

We are also committed to Identifying and improving disparities within identified communities in our state.

For physician offices with electronic health records (EHRs), we are also helping improve participation in the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and improving the use of EHR for care management.
