Breast & Colorectal Cancer Screenings

Quality Insights is working with a selected group of physician practices throughout the state to use their electronic health records (EHRs) to improve mammography and colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates. We are helping these participating practices to implement care management processes that focus on these diseases.

We used the Doctor’s Office Quality–Information Technology University (DOQ-IT University) Web site to educate participating practices about using their EHR capabilities to improve the rates of screenings. Each participating practice is using its certified EHR to report breast cancer and CRC screening data directly to the CMS Clinical Data Warehouse.

Interventions that support health information technology (HIT) have the potential to improve screening rates through timely notification of providers and patients when a mammogram or CRC screening should be scheduled.

In addition to assisting the participating practices, we monitor statewide screeing rates and produce an annual report of statewide trends.
