Pressure Ulcers
A pressure ulcer, sometimes called a bedsore, is an injury to the skin and underlying tissue usually caused when you stay in one position for too long without shifting your weight. These ulcers are most often found on the shoulders, elbow, hips, buttocks and heels (areas found over bony parts of the body from sitting or lying in bed for long periods of time).
The constant pressure against the skin reduces the blood supply to that area, and the affected tissue dies.
Quality Insights will work with hospitals and nursing homes to reduce the number of patients with pressure ulcers. We will offer educational programs and resources on the assessment, treatment and prevention of pressure ulcers.
