Helping Hospitals Transform Care
WVMI understands the barriers hospitals face daily. Staffing issues are common, time and resources are limited, and hospitals are working hard to improve quality of care. We want to be your partner in transforming these barriers into opportunities to improve quality of care.
WVMI can help locate gaps in care delivery systems and identify the opportunities for creating more efficient and effective care. Our project coordinators can work with you to meet the individual needs of your hospital, whether it's large, small, urban, or rural.
WVMI promotes the use of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement collaborative model and supports other performance improvement methods. We also sponsor educational events.
The 8th Scope of Work
In August 2005, WVMI began working on the 8th Scope of Work (SOW) with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). During this three-year contact, we have been helping hospitals transform care for four national clinical priorities as defined by CMS: Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and the Surgical Care Infection Project.
Compare the measures collected by CMS, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA), and the Reporting Hospital Quality Data for Annual Payment Update (APU). Follow this link.
WVMI also assists hospitals in these areas:
In addition, WVMI works with a select group of identified participants, chosen from CAH and PPS hospitals, on the following topics:

National Patient Safety Awareness
The National Patient Safety Foundation encourages hospitals and health care organizations to plan events to promote patient safety within their own organizations.
Educational activities can be centered on educating patients on how to become involved in their own health care, as well as working with hospitals to build partnerships with their patient community.
