WVMI and Nursing Homes

WVMI understands the challenges nursing homes face. Resources are tight. Staff turnover is common. There is little time for activities beyond basic resident care. Let WVMI be your partner in turning these challenges into opportunities to improve quality of care, as well as your performance on the quality measures.

WVMI can help you make the care delivery process more efficient, leaving you with more time for your residents while improving quality. We can also help you to adopt information technology and to learn to use it to simplify and improve resident care.

As part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Nursing Home Quality Initiative, WVMI works intensely with 40 long-term care facilites on the following clinical topics and objectives, and we work with other facilites throughout the state on the same topics.

  • Reduction of High Risk Pressure Ulcers
  • Reduction of Physical Restraints
  • Management of Chronic Pain
  • Management of Depressive Symptoms

In addition, WVMI works with the intensive group and other facilities on these objectives:

  • Target Setting on the Nursing Home STAR Web Site (the 2007 state goal is 23.3%)
  • Resident, Family and Staff Satisfaction Surveys
  • Collection of Rates of Certified Nursing Assistant Turnover

WVMI is also helping to lead the Advancing Excellence in America's Nursing Homes campaign by serving as a Local Area Network of Excellence (LANE).
