Hospital Patient Safety

In the 9th Scope of Work, select hospitals in West Virginia are focusing their quality improvement efforts in several key areas, in a collaborative effort to improve the level of patient safety delivered to West Virginia's Medicare consumers.

Improvements in patient safety are focused on:

  • The reduction in the incidence of MRSA infections in hospitals
  • The reduction in the incidence of drug-on-drug interactions (DDI) and the prescription of potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) for Medicare beneficiaries
  • The improvement in inpatient surgical safety and heart failure treatment in hospitals
