Breast & Colorectal Cancer Screenings
WVMI is working with a selected group of physician practices throughout the state to help them use their electronic health records (EHRs) to improve mammography and colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates. We are helping participating practices use their EHRs to implement care management processes that focus on these diseases.
We used the Doctor’s Office Quality–Information Technology University (DOQ-IT University) to help participating practices use their EHR capabilities to improve rates of screenings. Each participating practice is using its certified EHR to report breast cancer and CRC screening data.
Interventions that support health information technology (HIT) can improve screening rates by notifying providers and patients when it's time for a mammogram or CRC screening.
In addition to assisting the participating practices, we are monitoring statewide screening rates and producing an annual report of statewide trends.
