Practicing Prevention in Physician OfficesPreventing Medicare Consumers from Getting Sick The prevention of major illness is the first step in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It seems so simple, yet every day Medicare consumers who can and should get screenings and vaccinations don’t. There is a very real need for more effective strategies for delivering preventive medicine to those who need it the most.

In the 9th Scope of Work, we are helping health care providers use their electronic health record systems to implement the chronic care model. By focusing on care management processes, we are working to improve the rate of patients that receive:

Breast & colorectal cancer screenings
Influenza & pneumococcal immunizations

Scam AlertCMS has become aware of a scam where perpetrators are sending faxes to physician offices posing as the Medicare carrier or Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC). The fax instructs physician staff to respond to a questionnaire to provide an account information update within 48 hours in order to prevent a gap in Medicare payments. The fax may have the CMS logo and/or the contractor logo to enhance the appearance of authenticity.

CMS in July warned physicians to beware of faxes that purport to be from the Medicare carrier or Administrative Contractor and that ask for account information. Only send information to the addresses in the download section found here or here. If in doubt, check with your contractor.
